Stampeding change one household furnace at a time!

Overview

The purpose of this project was to design an eco-friendly product and packaging system, considering the full lifecycle from material sourcing to disposal and market positioning. Woolly reimagines the traditional furnace filter by using natural materials like wool, with research indicating it can match or exceed the performance of leading filters in removing harmful pollutants. By reducing unnecessary waste, the product presents a sustainable alternative with the potential to contribute meaningfully to addressing the global climate crisis.

Deliverables

- Creation of a product package that takes into consideration monetary and eco-friendly costs in preparing the design.
- Creation of an apt product that represents this eco-friendly approach to design.
- Product mock up.
- Die-lines for packaging.
- Social media campaign.

Process Work

The key process for this project relied heavily on researching into specific environmentally friendly packaging solutions. The product solution was also researched extensively to demonstrate its viability as an alternative solution in a well established market of HVAC and filter related products. Much of the process work delves into construction materials for the product and packaging and how those two worlds can combine and work intrinsically with one another.

Results

The product and packaging demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental consciousness, with decisions guided by sustainability and lifecycle considerations. The packaging uses post-consumer waste (PCW) recycled paper, creating a unique textured quality from varied fibers while reducing material waste. Printed elements rely on water-based, low-VOC inks such as soy, supporting environmentally responsible production and disposal. The paper’s natural absorbency allows for effective ink retention, maintaining print quality. Together, these choices reflect a cohesive design approach rooted in research, functionality, and sustainability.
